Enough with Anna Nicole Smith!
"Ridiculous" is the main word that comes to mind to descrite the cable news coverage of Anna Nicole Smith since she turned up dead in a casino hotel room last week.
Smith died on Thursday. This morning -- Monday -- FOX News and MSNBC were STILL devoting lengthy segments at the top of the hour to Smith's death and bizarre life. CNN waited until a few minutes into the hour before bringing up Smith, but also devoted a good amount of time to her.
Yes, we all like to be entertained with tantalizing details about a generally untalented-but-buxom blond woman from Texas who lives a life of excess, craves publicity, and then is consumed by it all. But there is such a thing as overkill.
All I'm asking for is balance. For example, several American soldiers died in Iraq last week. As cable news devoted hours of coverage to Smith, the stories about those soldiers were reduced to an occasional sentence of screen crawl.
I'd rather know about the lives of those soldiers than Anna Nicole Smith any day.

Well the news stations are trying to gain viewers so they show what people want to see. Just like you print what you think people want to read. If we had a news channel that just provided news on truly news worthy facts they wouldn't last very long.
Yeah, don't you think it's a little hypocritical of you to be criticizing the TV news media for excessively blowing-up the death of Ms. Smith?!
I mean, didn't you and your other editor, Del, yell at us and complain that we should shut-up and read what's in our newspaper because it's what WE want?
Sure, it definitely is what WE want, that's how the media makes money -- giving people what they want to hear, or see.
I despise Smith, but that doesn't make it not interesting...just ask the people to figure that out.
Most anything that is away from the "norm" that is put in people’s faces' is going to stay in the people's faces' until something new pops up.
You ARE a journalism major, right?!...or at least advertising?! COME ON!!!
I think it's sad that nobody even CARED that the old guy that was the "Pardon Me, But Do You Have Any Grey Poupon" guy ALSO died over the weekend.
If only he had boobs we might have noticed.
*evil grin*

Today Ann'a body is decaying and no one cares. The judges hear arguments about who owns the body and it's dispostion and to every network this is news. Of course the other hot topic of the day is it did snow up north. What a BIG news day.
The only one that controls my television and what I watch is me. I learned serveral years ago what the channel change button is for. Also if I am really tired of the lame and unncessary news, the off button works great!
Doug Giles says, "Anna Nicole didn’t live long, but she looked like she was having fun—didn’t she? She was on TV a lot, which was pretty cool."

Isn't it lovely that all these men are fighting to claim paternity for Anna Nicole's baby? This proves that men are naturally good.
